Stain Art Lesson Overview
DAY 1: Introduce Students to Surrealism
Lesson Guiding Questions
- What is surrealism?
- Who is Salvador Dali?
- How was Dali inspired?

Materials:
- Watercolour paper
- DECAFFEINATED coffee, Tea, Watercolour, anything that will stain paper
- Fine tip black felts
*If you wanted to, you could have the students make their own “spills” as part of the activity. In the past I have always done it myself the day before and enjoyed the element of surprise when the kids take the first look at their stain.
DAY 2: Create Stain Art
Lesson Guiding Questions
- What is stain art?
- How do we create surrealist art?
- How do we become creative?
Place a stained paper face down on the students desk. Make sure every student has a pencil and a fine tip felt.
Students will quietly work on their stain art drawings. The teacher will put creativity boosting music on in the background.
